Load Management

Determining the load capacity of a structure is essential to assessing whether the operational capacity of an existing network is adequate to meet the needs of the vehicular traffic using that network. This includes vehicles complying with The Road Vehicles Construction and Use (C&U) Regulations, e.g. cars, light goods vehicles and heavy good vehicles up to a gross weight of 44 tonnes, Vehicles complying with the Road Vehicles (Authorisation of Special Types) General Order (STGO) and Special Order Vehicles which require explicit permission and rigorous review before the they can travel on the network.

Load Management is not applicable to all asset types within AssetWise CONNECT Edition Asset Lifecycle Information Management(ALIM), and is primarily applicable to bridges, but can also apply to assets such as retaining walls (where they support traffic loading) and culverts, for example.

AssetWise CONNECT Edition Asset Lifecycle Information Management records information about an asset's Effective Load Management and Headline (Lowest Assessed Live Loading) capacity, as well as providing audit trails. ALIM does not perform any loading capacity calculations or analysis.

Asset types that support load management display a Load tab on the Asset page. Only relevant data pertaining to the load management of that particular asset appears on the this tab. If the engineer determines that a location or direction has a different capacity, then Effective Load Capacities may be created from either the asset's page, or as a result of an activity, such as a Structural Review and Load Assessment or Assessed Structural Capacity Assessment.
Note: In AssetWise, document class "Design Standard", class code = DESIGN_STANDARD is hardcoded explicitly for Load Management use, and should not be used for any other purpose.

Additional load management information can be recorded for Assessed Structural Capacity: Headline Results (Lowest Assessed Live Load), Further Information, and Design details.
